SHIELD SUBLIME 7000®TRANSFER PRINTING FELT
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  • Install and center the new blanket on the machine, taking care to insure that all rolls and cylinders are parallel to the main cylinder, and that the belt is not stretched on either selvedge.
  • Set the tracking roll in its neutral position, so that it is parallel with all other cylinders, and disconnect the activation system so that it does not track.
  • Before setting the machine in motion, apply heat to the cylinder and allow the temperature to reach 300° F (150°C).

NOTE: Be careful not to greatly exceed this temperature before starting the machine as the felt may otherwise shrink in an irregular manner.

  • Once this temperature is reached, start the machine at one (1) meter per minute. If tension is necessary to remove obvious slack from the felt, apply only enough air pressure to turn the felt. Be sure that either side of the tension roll is equidistant to the other. This is critical.
  • Continue to increase the temperature until it reaches 500° F (260°C). Allow the blanket to run at this temperature for one and a half to two (1-1/2 to 2) hours at one (1) meter per minute. The slower the better. Try not to exceed (1) mpm.
NOTE: This slow speed in conjunction with a temperature of 500° F (260°C) is mandatory for proper heat setting. If this temperature is unobtainable on your machine, achieve the highest temperature possible and extend the dwell time accordingly.
  • After running slowly for one and a half to two (1-1/2 to 2) hours at 500°F(260°C) set the cylinder temperature to the correct operating level - normally 410° F (210°C).
  • Continue to rotate the felt at (1) meter per minute while the cylinder cools down.
  • Once reaching the operating temperature, engage the tracking mechanism, reset the feeler gauges, and apply the machine manufacturer's recommended air pressure to the tension roll. (Be sure that the tension roll raises uniformly from side to side.)
  • NOTE: Each manufacturer suggests a different air pressure, but generally 40-90 PSI (3 - 6 bars) is suggested. Remember: The less air pressure applied, the better it is for the bearings, cylinders and felt blanket.
Once step No. 7 is completed, the speed of the felt may be increased to that of production speed.
The felt should be watched for a few minutes to confirm proper tracking.
  • Should the felt favor tracking to one side of the machine over the other, remember that it will travel to the side with the least amount of tension. Therefore, one of the idler rolls (usually the rear idler roll) may be raised slightly on the side that the felt wants to travel to, while the other side of the roll remains unchanged.
  • For subsequent start-ups from cold, first bring the cylinder temperature up to 200° F (95°C)before turning the blanket. Once reaching 200° F (95°C)begin running the blanket slowly, one (1) to two (2)meters per minute, while the temperature continues to rise to your normal operating temperature. Upon reaching operating temperature proceed to operate normally.
  • To stop production and cool the machine down, we recommend running the felt until the cylinder temperature drops to 200°F (95°C). At 200°F the blanket may be stopped, if desired, and the cylinder subsequently allowed to cool completely without turning.
  • By following these instructions, proper tracking will easily be achieved and months of service easily obtained. We thank you for your patronage and encourage you to share any of your comments and/or suggestions with us.
